Rest & Recovery

Sleep, Restoration and Renewal

The area
Rest and recovery enable the body and mind to repair, restore and adapt. Quality sleep is the foundation, supported by practices such as mindfulness, breathwork, NSDR, sauna, cold exposure, gentle movement and relaxation.

The impact and what good looks like
Effective recovery leads to restorative sleep, waking refreshed, sustained energy and greater resilience to physical, mental and emotional stress. Prioritising recovery enhances wellbeing, performance and long-term health, providing the foundation for all other Biostyle pillars.

Light & Circadian Rhythm

Circadian Rhythm Regulation and Daily Light Exposure

The area
Sunlight regulates the body's circadian rhythm, helping to align sleep, hormones, metabolism, mood and energy. Regular morning daylight exposure provides the strongest signal for a healthy daily rhythm.

The impact and what good looks like
Consistent light exposure supports better sleep, sustained energy, balanced mood and healthy hormonal function. Good practice includes morning sunlight, reduced artificial light in the evening, and a daily routine that follows natural light-dark cycles.

Movement

Cardiovascular Fitness and Resistance Training

The area
Exercise builds and maintains physical capacity through regular movement, cardiovascular fitness and resistance training. It supports heart, muscle, bone, metabolic and brain health while improving resilience.

The impact and what good looks like
Regular exercise builds strength, fitness and mobility while supporting energy, confidence and long-term health. A balanced routine includes daily movement, cardiovascular exercise and resistance training to maintain a strong, capable body.

Relational Wellbeing

Connection With Others and Self

The area
Relational wellbeing is about the quality of our relationships with others and ourselves. It includes connection, belonging, trust, communication, compassion, and self-awareness, all of which support emotional, psychological, and physical wellbeing.

The impact and what good looks like
Healthy relationships provide support, security, purpose, and balance. Strong relational wellbeing means feeling valued, maintaining healthy boundaries, building authentic connections, and having a positive relationship with yourself. A balanced life includes meaningful connections and the ability to give and receive support.

Microbiome

Foundational Systems for Whole-Body Health

The area
The microbiome is the community of microorganisms that supports digestion, immunity, metabolism, inflammation, and brain function. A diverse and balanced microbiome is essential for whole-body health.

The impact and what good looks like
A healthy microbiome supports digestion, nutrient absorption, immune balance, energy, and resilience. It is supported by a varied, fibre-rich diet, regular movement, quality sleep, stress management, and minimising unnecessary disruption.

Stress Management

Nervous System Regulation and Recovery

The area
Stress management is the ability to regulate the nervous system, recover from challenges and maintain a healthy balance between activity and rest. Effective recovery helps protect sleep, hormones, immunity and overall wellbeing.

The impact and what good looks like
Good stress management builds resilience and the ability to respond calmly to life's demands. Practices such as breathwork, mindfulness, time in nature, relaxation and healthy boundaries support recovery and help the body adapt to stress.

Nutrition

Amount, Timing, and Nutrient Quality

The area
Nutrition provides the fuel and nutrients needed for energy, repair, growth, brain function, hormone balance, and disease prevention. It includes not only what we eat, but also the amount, timing, quality, and our relationship with food.

The impact and what good looks like
Optimised nutrition supports consistent energy, mental clarity, physical performance, and healthy ageing. It involves balanced meals, whole foods, appropriate energy intake, and sufficient protein, healthy fats, fibre, vitamins, and minerals, while maintaining a positive relationship with eating.

Spiritual Grounding

Meaning, Values, and Purpose

The area
Spiritual grounding focuses on meaning, values, purpose, identity, and connection beyond the self. It reflects understanding what matters and living in alignment with personal values.

The impact and what good looks like
Spiritual wellbeing supports clarity, fulfilment, resilience, and direction. It involves knowing what is important, making value-aligned choices, and creating a balanced, authentic life.
